Yusupov Palace Guided Tour
Once belonging to prince Yusupov noble family it is one of the most beautiful palaces in St. Petersburg. Its expositions reflect refined luxury, splendor of high life, human relationships and the history of rich aristocratic family.
The palace retains its genuine interiors of the 19th beginning of the 20th century. Motives of various styles have been used in the decoration of the halls and chambers. The influence of the art of different countries and epochs can be traced in the Turkish study, Oaken dining-room, Musical chambers and the chamber of Henry II. The luxurious decorations of the interiors just dazzle: murals, carvings, marble, mirrors, gilded chandelier, expensive silk clothes and refined furniture.
The palace is also known for the murder of one of the most scandalous figures in Russian history Grigory Rasputin who is believed as having influenced the later days of the Russian Tsar Nicholas II. The legendary favorite of the wife of Emperor Nicolas II, Rasputin convinced the royal family that he possessed supernatural powers and that only he could cure the heir to the throne Alexis, who suffered from haemophilia.
Nowadays the cellar where the dramatic events took place houses the exhibition of Rasputin’s life and death.
Refined luxury, splendor of high life, human relationships and the history of rich aristocratic family are reflected in the expositions of Yusupov Palace, one of the most mysterious places in St. Petersburg.
