ITINERARY

Day 1 - Helsinki
Departure to St. Petersburg. Ferry Princess Anastasia
Leaving Helsinki behind, we’ll sail for St. Petersburg on board the comfortable Princess Anastasia ferry.

Day 2 - St. Petersburg
Arrival in St. Petersburg. City Tour. Peter & Paul's Fortress. Catherine Palace & the Amber Room
As we dock, our driver will be waiting to collect you for your transfer to the hotel. Included today is a city tour of St Petersburg. First stop will be the impressive Peter and Paul Fortress. Located in a defensive position overlooking the city, this was built in 1703 by Peter the Great to stave off attack from the Swedish troops that threatened the region at that time. It would be 1917 before the fortress saw any military action. These days, it’s a fascinating museum complex and home to the cathedral in which you’ll find the tombs of the Romanov Royal family.

After lunch, we’ll focus on the Catherine Palace, just outside the city at Tsarskoe Selo (also known as Pushkin). Italian architect Rastrelli did an amazing job designing this exquisite Baroque palace. Its undisputed highlight is the opulent Amber Room which shines even amidst such marvellous decor.

Day 3 - St. Petersburg
Hermitage Museum. Boat Trip on St. Petersburg Canals. Departure to Helsinki
It’s time to check out the Hermitage and today we have an included tour. This magnificent building was once a Royal palace and now its sumptuous interiors are the setting for a world-renowned art collection rivalled only by the Louvre in Paris. Covering a period of history from the Stone Age to the 20th Century, all manner of works of art are showcased here, with every famous name you can think of. From Leonardo da Vinci to Rembrandt, you’ll find plenty here to fill you with awe and wonder. 

Later, we’ll take a boat tour of the city’s delightful canals, the reason why many people call the city the “Venice of the North”. From the water, the grandeur of the city is even more apparent. You’ll be able to admire the many bridges, 18th and 19th century palaces and riverside parks. Each vista, punctuated by church spires and domes, is more beautiful than the last and that camera will get quite a workout.  Reluctantly, we’ll need to return to the hotel where our driver will be waiting to transfer you to the port once more, so that the Princess Anastasia ferry can return you to Finnish soil.

Day 4 - Helsinki
Arrival in Helsinki
The tour ends in Helsinki.  If you wish to remain in the Finnish capital, we’d be happy to help with the accommodation and sightseeing arrangements.
